Studio Boma wins company photo contest
In September 2007, Marketing Valet invited departments within the company to shoot, compile, and enter photo essays for its first-ever photo contest. It proved to be a worthwhile and enjoyable team buiding exercise. The first, second, and third place winners received cash to spend on group activities outside the office.
The Flash/video production team beat out entries from project management, marketing, QA, and Marketing Valet. Their entry, entitled “Gastronomic Anthology,” combined smart writing and creative photography to produce a quirky take on Filipino food. Studio Boma head JP de Guzman explains how the contest entry was meant to give American viewers an idea of Filipino culture through its street food – “something Americans might find interesting, to say the least.”
When asked what street food he would ask U.S. clients to try out their next trip to the Manila office, JP answered without hesitation: “Balut. It has wet feathers...and if you’re lucky it has a soft beak.”
The contest deadline was held on October 25, 2007. Marketing Valet president Ted Fong, an amateur photographer himself, was the sole judge. He assigned points to each entry based on creativity, style, theme selection, and quality of photos. Marielle Valdez presented the awards during Marketing Valet’s Halloween party on October 26.
